Rock Musical Theater Intensive is BBS’ most popular program, where students aged 13-19 spend a month working on a Broadway-style musical that culminates in fully-staged productions for family, friends, the community, and industry professionals. Past RMTI (or Drama Intensive) productions include Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street, Pippin, 1776, Fiddler On The Roof, Detective Story, Our Town, Les Miserables, One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest, Two Gentlemen Of Verona: The Rock Musical Comedy Romance, and Legally Blonde The Musical. Entering its ninth season, the program is run by BBS Artistic Director Matt Okin, Musical Director Huey Esquire, Vocal Director Kori Jennings, Choreographer Michelle Puskas, other professional teaching artists, and special entertainment industry guests!
In this total-immersion, collaborative theater experience, participants receive hands-on instruction in acting, improvisation, voice, dance, stage combat, audition technique and more. Students explore numerous genres of theater as they rehearse and mount an exciting, full-length show. Roles are chosen specifically for each participant to showcase his or her talents and give each the opportunity to grow over the course of the summer.
Some chosen material may be considered sophisticated, and content warnings for audiences are displayed on all performance publicity materials whenever deemed necessary by the Artistic Director.
Those who are interested in what goes on behind the scenes- design, lighting, management, etc.- are also encouraged to join. As well, we hire one student director (a 12th Grade graduate) and, sometimes, one stage manager for the program. For these, contact Matt at firstname.lastname@example.org or call 201-357-2221.
This summer's production is Heathers The Musical: High School Edition

RMTI has a few prime slots left; when capacity is reached, it will be noted if the remaining slots are "ensemble" only or there is an actual waiting list to be admitted into the program. RMTI is limited to the first 20 performers; other slots are available for behind-the-scenes participants. For those under 13 and over 19 (or otherwise not entering Grade 6 through 12 in September 2017), exceptions may be made on a case-by-case basis. Admittance requires an audition, with options offered until June 19, 2017. All registered students are guaranteed a first-choice slot for an audition.
There will be no refunds of the deposit. Emergency medical withdrawls can request future BBS credit. As of June 1, 2017, payment for any new registrations is due in full.
